1985 Nissan 300ZX Grassroots Race Car

You have found Grassroots Motorsports' previous 4 time back to back (02-05) champion that was previously driven by "The World's Fastest Clown" and owned by Team Tobacco Free. It was entered in Grassroots' under $1000 Category meaning that the build had the be documented with receipts showing that it cost less than $1000 to build. It was originally found in a barn that was using it as a chicken coop. The team purchased 3
of these 85 300ZX's for $300 and it has since been reffered to as the "Nissan 343
Coop". $979.77 and 1500 hours later a champion was born. The car retains its
original engine that was fitted with a set of Pacesetter headers and a custome made intake manifold/ plenum. The stock plenum was cut to get the mounting piece to build upon. It was then ported and shaped into Velocity stacks with the end result Being a highly efficient cold/ forced air induction. The increased air from the induction system ultimately ment the car would need more fuel to run properly. This was accomplished by cutting open the original regulator and adding an additional spring which added extra pressure to the diaphragm and ultimately enables the car to 13.0 second quarter miles (with nitrous). The battery was relocated to the very rear of the car with a custom built box and the fuel cell which consists of a 5 gallon gas can that sits inside a custom box in the trunk. The body was taken down to metal and re-painted red and numerous parts have been powder coated which really sets the car off. The finished product is a competition proven track car that would have cost over $90,000 to build at a shop rate of $60.00 per hour.
